After graduating with 1st Class Honours from Oxford University, Mike England built a career in Local Government, where he held Director-level roles with responsibility for large service organisations.

 

Now retired from that world, Mike formed Family Story UK to bring enjoyment to others in uncovering and telling  their family history - and to have fun himself along the way!

 

Mike has researched his own family history, and that of others, for many years, having always regretted not finding out more from older relatives when he had the chance.

Within his own family he uncovered an ancestor in Devon imprisoned for failing to pay a debt, and the story of Irish forebears, forced to seek new life in England in the 1840s after the great famine.  

 

He brings both experience in using the key information sources, and the ability to bring them to life. He is skilled in the use of census and parish records, civil registration records and many other published sources. In his reports, he has the ability to weave what can sometimes be dry dates and events into the context of the times our ancestors lived in to make a compelling narrative.

 

Through Family Story UK, Mike is interested in using new technology to help people discover and share their family history as widely as possible.
